Colorectal Cancer
is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the US.
Colorectal cancer claims over 55,000 lives per year in the US. The
American Cancer Society, along with the US Government, now recommends
that everyone over the age of 50 should be screened for Colorectal
Cancer. Individuals in higher risk categories such as family history
of CRC or Inflammatory Bowel Disease should start regular screening.
Mortality rates from colorectal cancer were 33% lower among persons
undergoing annual FOBT screening than in a group that was not screened.
The incidence of colorectal cancer decreased by 20 percent in the
groups screened annually.1
Colorectal cancer,
if detected early, is one of the most curable diseases. A fecal
occult-blood test is the most commonly performed screening test
for colorectal cancer in the United States.
